The Brief
The big dilemma for our client: should they appoint someone internally or externally to a key role? They wanted sight of the competitor landscape to explore:
- To whom they should compare their internal people?
- How well would their internal candidates stack up to leaders at competitor organisations?
- Should they enhance their transformation agenda by appointing a Black executive or a woman to the role?
Challenge and Outcomes
We proposed a Talent Mapping project, which took the form of a deep dive into 10 competitor organisations of a similar scale, identifying leadership structures within their local and offshore operations, and sourcing profile information on all relevant individuals.
Our special projects team spent three weeks in the trenches, ultimately producing a comprehensive, incisive report with up-to-date information that enabled our client to make some important business (and people) decisions.
The insights from the talent map painted a strong case for an internal hire, which they made with assurance now that they had done their due diligence.
When insights enable our clients to choose the right leader, that’s a great outcome.
