The Brief
Take an industry leader in the fish and seafood market exporting 70% of their goods to Europe from Southern Africa. Add a pending business restructure to position their growth strategy. What they needed: a big fish, to be based in a small pond (Namibia).
Now, there are quite a number of big fish with CA’s, who have solid experience in cross-border tax, and exposure to the regulatory demands of the fishing industry in the region. Unfortunately, not many want to live and work in a small pond.
Challenge and outcomes
If that wasn’t enough, there was a further challenge: some unfavourable media coverage on the parent company, based in Europe. It was up to the Jack Hammer team to clarify the issues, and present a balanced view to potential candidates.
The team took a deep breath, and started fishing! Now sometimes, we’re lucky, and we hook the right candidates quite quickly. Other times, it doesn’t work out like that. This was one of those ‘other times’.
The researchers looked at 146 people, approached 97, conducted interviews with 49, shortlisted five, and finally secured….one. Because that’s all it takes – just one perfect fit.
